Hospice celebrates the work of its staff and volunteers at special award ceremony
Staff and volunteers from The Heart of Kent Hospice were recognised for their service and commitment at a special awards ceremony held at Oakwood House on 3rd June.
The Lady Monckton Awards Ceremony is held every year during National Volunteer’s Week to celebrate the huge contribution staff and volunteers make in helping the Hospice to deliver specialist care for those facing the challenge of a life limiting illness.
The awards were presented by Marianna, Viscountess Monckton of Brenchley, Patron of The Heart of Kent Hospice and individuals received a special certificate and badge in recognition of their length of service to the Hospice.
Jo Graham is a volunteer at her local Hospice shop in Starnes Court and attended the event to receive her 20 year service award. She said: “It’s just wonderful to be here and such an achievement. They are such a wonderful team at Starnes Court and I couldn’t have done it without them.”
Pam Jones has also supported the Hospice for 20 years, working in its Borough Green shop, she said: “I feel very honoured to receive this award and a little overwhelmed by the occasion. The Hospice does such good work and it means a lot to people who spend their last days there.”
Hospice Chief Executive, Vicki Morrey said: “This is one of the most important occasions in our Hospice calendar and a wonderful opportunity to thank our staff and volunteers who year after year bring the same kind of commitment, energy and drive to supporting the work of the Hospice, to which we are immensely grateful.”
The Heart of Kent Hospice has over 600 volunteers who perform a wide range of roles for the Hospice, from working as a Ward Clerk in the Inpatient Unit, maintaining the Hospice gardens, serving in the coffee shop, sorting through donated items in the Hospice shops to supporting patients in the Day Therapy Centre.
