Menopause needn't meam misery

As you mop your brow following no doubt another interrupted night’s sleep, it will come as little consolation to learn that many cultures believe the menopause should be celebrated as a new era in a woman’s life.

For most women there are three stages: peri-menopause, menopause and post-menopause, and throughout all three phases, hormones tend to run amok, resulting in hot flushes, night sweats, low mood, thinning hair, headaches, tiredness and loss of libido.

Sound familiar? Symptoms are unfortunately very common with the NHS estimating approximately 8 out of 10 women will experience one or more symptoms related to menopause.

If you or someone you know is affected by symptoms of menopause, help is available. There is much greater awareness of this once taboo subject and various natural options are available.

On Tuesday 29th October Maidstone Health Foods will be hosting a Menopause Awareness talk to discuss some of these, with guest speaker and menopause expert, Eileen Durward.

The talk is taking place between 3 – 4pm at Harpers Café and Gifts,

12 Market Buildings, Maidstone ME14 1HP, and tickets are available from Maidstone Health Foods, priced £5.00 a head (redeemable with purchase).

You’ll be in good company and should you wish to, you’ll be able to share any concerns you may have in private with Eileen after her talk, or openly with other women going through a similar experience.

There will also be tea and coffee on tap, as well as a lovely slice of cake!

Tickets are on a first come first served basis, and demand is expected to be high.
