Bearsted looks for a new parish clerk

BEARSTED Parish Council is advertising the role of clerk.

The part-time post, which carries a salary of up to £28,000 (pro rata).

The job ad says: "An exciting opportunity has arisen to join Bearsted Parish Council as the Parish Council Clerk/ Responsible Financial Officer. This is an interesting and varied position, supporting an active, community focused Parish Council.

"The successful applicant will be required to provide professional support and guidance in respect of all aspects of the council’s work including responsibility for the financial budget and income & expenditure accounts.

"This is a key Local Government post with responsibilities for guiding and advising the council in undertaking its statutory duties.

"Bearsted Parish is one of the largest parishes within the Maidstone Borough, with an annual budget of £180,000. You will be responsible for the effective running of the parish office, spending approximately 75% of your time based at the office.

"You will often be required to work on your own, so you must be self motivated and work with minimal supervision. You will arrange, organise and attend council meetings, which will require a working pattern of a maximum of five evenings per month and some weekend work linked to parish events that occur three or four times a year.

"You will be supported by a part time Administration Assistant who will report into the post of Clerk/RFO and support the council’s administration requirements. 

"You should have excellent interpersonal and communication skills. You should be approachable and enthusiastic and have a pride and passion for the community. You will provide procedural, administrative and legal advice to BPC to enable informed decisions to be made.

"You will need excellent administrative skills, demonstrating good organisation and achievement of deadlines. You will need to be resilient to challenges and be comfortable and confident to resolve opposition satisfactorily.

"You will also need to be computer literate and fully conversant with Microsoft Office having an intermediate level of knowledge of Word and Excel. You should also be familiar with social and digital media channels to enhance Bearsted Parish Councils communication presence.
Ideally the successful candidate will have held a similar position within a Parish Council of comparable size to Bearsted."
