Holmesdale head quits over federation change

Friday 13th January 2017

WELL-respected Malling head teacher Patrick Hannaway has stepped down from his post.
His decision, which was announced in a letter issued by his board of governors on January 3, is with immediate effect.
It gives the decision not to continue running The Malling and Holmesdale Schools as a Federation as the reason for his decision.
A consequence of the change would have seen Mr Hannaway relinquish his job as executive head of both schools since 2011 for the post of head at Holmesdale. His colleague Tina Bissett will now step up into his role.
Richard Sams, chair of the now dissolved Malling Holmesdale Federation governing body, said: “One consequence of the process of dissolving the Malling Holmesdale Federation is that Patrick Hannaway has decided to seek new challenges elsewhere.
“The governors have accepted Patrick’s decision and wish him the best of luck in his next role.”
He added: “The governors recognise that Patrick has successfully put in place many of the strategies that will see Holmesdale’s results improve significantly and thank him for this and his dedicated contribution to school life.”
They welcomed Miss Bissett’s decision to take up the mantle, adding: “In the short time Tina has worked at Holmesdale, she has showed dedication and enthusiasm towards improving the education provision of our pupils. We are pleased Tina has accepted the role.”
Mr Sams, who has also stood down as chairman of the federation’s board of governors, said: “I wish everybody associated with The Holmesdale and The Malling Schools the best of luck for the future. I will watch their ongoing evolution with interest.”
Bob Huelin has agreed to be nominated as the new chair of governors of The Holmesdale School.
Mrs Bissett, who joined the school as senior deputy headteacher in October 2016, was previously the principal of the Oasis Academy in Hextable.
The secondary school closed in August last year due to falling numbers.
There will be a full report on Holmesdale school in Town Talk, in the next issue of Downs Mail.
