JAILED: Predator sexually assaulted woman in Maidstone

Wednesday 6th October 2021

A PREDATOR who sexually assaulted a woman in Maidstone has been jailed for a year.

Laszlo Mezei (41), of no fixed address, followed his victim along Sutton Road and exposed himself in front of her on May 29 last year.

As she continued into Loose Road, Mezei grabbed her shoulder and pulled her towards him.

In a state of distress, the victim phoned a relative for help.

As she walked to meet her relative, she saw Mexei two more times. Once when he gestured for her to come over and a short while later when he was seen laughing at her.

Police officers carried out a search of the area and arrested Mezei near Mote Park.

He was later charged with sexual assault and indecent exposure and was remanded in custody.

Mezei pleaded not guilty at Maidstone Crown Court and was convicted on September 22 after a three-day trial. He was sentenced on Tuesday, October 5 to 12 months in prison.

Detective Constable Darren Ousby said: “Mezei is a predator who planned where to commit these offences.

“He showed no consideration for his victim who was extremely distressed by his actions. However, in spite of her ordeal, she showed the presence of mind to take photographs of him on her phone.

“This ensured we were able to bring this man to justice and I would like to commend the victim and the other witnesses for their assistance.”
