Kent Police issue warning after series of day time van thefts near Maidstone

Tuesday 22nd January 2019

VAN owners in Kings Hill are being to be advised to keep vans locked and tools secured following a series of thefts.

Kent Police revealed there have been several day time thefts from vans on Monday, January 21 at around 11am.

A spokesman for Kent Police said: “Van owners in the Kings Hill area are reminded to lock tools away to deter opportunist thieves.

“The advice comes after three reported thefts from unattended vehicles parked near Jubilee Way between 11am and midday on Monday, January 21 2019.”

Items including power tools, a satnav device, sunglasses and bank cards were reported stolen while the drivers were away from their vans.

Police Sergeant Andy Gallon said: “While we are investigating these offences, I would urge van owners to remove valuable equipment if possible.

“If you are leaving your vehicle unattended make sure you lock all doors and close windows whenever you leave it. Never leave anything valuable on display.

“If possible park in a secure car park and try to leave the van in an area which leaves no space to open the rear doors.”

Further advice includes wiping satnav suction marks from your windscreen or dashboard.

Anyone with information which may assist the investigation is asked to call 01622 604100 quoting reference 21-0500.
