MOTE RD BLAZE: Police find 'drug farm' in flat above shop in Maidstone

Monday 26th April 2021

POLICE have seized evidence of what appears to be a drug cultivation operation in a flat above a shop in Mote Road, Maidstone.

Police were called at around 12.35pm on April 25 to reports of a fire above the Marmaris Off-Licence and Groceries store.

Three white-suited forensics officers were seen at 9am this morning.

A Kent Police spokesman said: "Kent Fire and Rescue Service also went to the scene where the fire was extinguished. Inside the premises, officers seized a quantity of cannabis plants and cultivation equipment.

"Nobody has been arrested at this stage and an investigation is continuing to establish who is responsible for the cannabis factory."

A Kent Fire and Rescue Service spokesman said: "Four fire engines and a height vehicle attended, and crews wearing breathing apparatus extinguished the fire in the roof space using hose reel jets."
