Maidstone United boss Jay Saunders staying amid Macclesfield Town links

Wednesday 6th June 2018

MAIDSTONE United have denied reports that their manager Jay Saunders is set to leave the club.
Long-serving Stones boss Saunders emerged as the favourite to become the new Macclesfield Town manager on Tuesday night, with one bookmaker placing his odds at 1/10.
Macclesfield, who won the Stones' National League last season, need a new boss after John Askey left following promotion to join Shrewsbury Town.
Saunders has been in charge at the Gallagher Stadium since 2011 and has led the club from the Ryman League Division One South to the top flight of non-league football.
Chief executive Bill Williams has poured cold water on the reports linking Saunders with the Silkmen.
"Over the past day or so, there has been rumour and speculation over the future of our manager Jay Saunders," Williams said via the club's official Twitter account.
"To put an end to that, I can confirm that Jay is committed to Maidstone United and will be continuing the role he's had with the club since 2011.
"We are all looking forward to what is going to be a very exciting season and Jay, along with his management team of Steve Watt and Harrison Grant, are busy preparing their pre-season programme and looking to add players to the existing squad."
