TRAFFIC UPDATE: Delays, diversions and disruption to M20, M2 & A roads - details

There are a large number of roadworks in the coming days affecting this and other parts of Kent.

Disruptions, delays and diversions are likely on all the motorways and major A roads.

Highways England has just released this statement:

 

 

M20 junctions 3 to 5, Maidstone Kent: Smart Motorways

Work to improve journeys continues this week on the M20 between junctions 3 to 5. There are currently narrow lanes and a reduced speed limit of 50mph in place 24/7.    Free recovery service and speed enforcement remain in place to ensure drivers and road workers safety.

M20 junctions 9 to 11, Kent: Junction 10a Construction
Work to improve the network continue this week on the M20. There are currently 24 hour lane closure and 50mph speed restriction in place in both directions between junctions 9 and 11. This will remain in place until January 2020.

M20 junctions 8 to 9, Kent: resurfacing

Work to improve the network continue this week on the M20. There will be a full eastbound carriageway closure between junction 8 and 9 on Monday 10 December for seven nights between 8pm and 6am. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via A249, M2, A2, A20 and M20.



M20 junctions 9 to 7, Kent; road surface repairs
Work to improve journeys continue this week on the M20.  There are currently 24 hour narrow lanes in place, and a 50mph speed restriction on the westbound carriageway between junctions 9 and 8. In addition, there is also a 24 hour lane 3 closure on the eastbound carriageway between junction 8 & 9.
On Monday 10 December there will be westbound lane closures between junction 9 and 8 for seven nights between 8pm and 6am.

M2 junctions 2 to 3 Medway: bridge works
Work to improve safety this week continues on the M2 by undertaking bridge repairs.
On Monday 10 December there will be a full closure of the westbound entry slip road at junction 3 for five nights between 8pm and 6am.  A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the next available junction. The scheme is expected to be complete in March 2019.

M2 junctions 1 to 4 Medway: resurfacing
Work to improve safety begin this week on the M2. On Monday 10 December there will be a full closure westbound between junction 4 and three overnight, between 8pm and 6am. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A278 and A289. On Wednesday 12 December there will be a full eastbound closure between junction 1 and 3 for five nights between 8pm and 6am. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A289 and A278.

M2 junctions 5 to 7, Faversham Kent: resurfacing
Work to improve the network begin this week on the M2. There will be a full westbound closure between junction 7 and junction 5 on Monday 10 December for seven nights between 8pm and 6am. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via A2, A20 and M20.

M2 junction 7, Brenley Kent: drainage repairs
Work to improve the network begin this week on the M2. There will be a full closure of the eastbound exit slip on Monday 10 December overnight between 8pm and 6am. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A299 and its junction with Graveney Road.

M2 junctions 5 to 7, Faversham Kent: resurfacing
Work to improve the network begin this week on the M2. There will be a full westbound closure between junction 7 and junction 5 on Saturday 8 December for two nights between 8pm and 6am. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via A2, A20 and M20.

 


M23 junctions 8 to 10, Surrey: Smart Motorways
Work to improve journeys continues this week on the M23 between junctions 8 - 10. On Monday 10 December for 7 nights, there will be a lane 1 closure leading to a full closure of junction 7 from the M25 onto the M23 southbound between 10pm and 4am.  A fully signed diversion route is in place via junction 8 of the M25 and back. 

Narrow lanes and a reduced speed limit of 50mph North and South bound 24/7.   Free recovery service and speed enforcement are now in place to ensure drivers and road workers safety.

 

A2 Darenth, Kent: junction improvements
Work to improve the M25 junction 2 roundabout continues this week. As part of these works there is currently a 24 hour weight restriction, 50 mph speed limit, and narrow lanes in place on the eastbound carriageway of the A2 at Darenth. These will remain in place until March 2019.


A21 Vauxhall Interchange to Pembury, Kent:  carriageway repairs
Work to improve safety take place this week on the A21. On Tuesday 4 December there will be a full southbound closure between Vauxhall Interchange and Pembury overnight between 8pm and 6am.  On Wednesday 5 December there will be a full northbound closure between Pembury and Vauxhall Interchange overnight between 8pm and 6am. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A26 and A288.

A21 Tonbridge, Kent: weakened structure
For the safety of road users there is currently a 50mph speed restriction, and also a weight restriction between Philpots Lane overbridge and the junction of London Road A26 in both directions of the A21.

A23 Pyecombe, Sussex: ground investigation
Works to improve the network take place this week on the A23, at the Pyecombe interchange this week. On Monday 10 December there will be a full closure of the northbound exit slip road to the A281 for five nights between 8pm and 6am. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the next available junction.

 

A249 Bobbing Interchange

The A249 southbound carriageway at Bobbing Interchange will be closed for five nights (weeknights only) between 8pm and 6:00am for bridge joint replacement works. The works started on 26 November and are due to be completed by 14 December; subject to weather conditions. There will be a fully signed diversion route in place via Sheppey Way, to re-join the A249 at Key Street Interchange.

 

A249 Grovehurst Interchange to Bobbing Interchange

The A249 Southbound will have a lane 1 closure between 11 and 14 December 2018, between the hours of 09:30hrs and 15:30hrs for bridge inspection works.  


A27 Brighton, Sussex: resurfacing
Work to improve the network continue this week on the A27.  On Monday 10 December there will be a full eastbound closure between Devils Dyke and Patcham for five nights between 8pm and 6am. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the Devils Dyke Road, A281, and the A23.

A27 Falmer, Sussex: street lighting renewals
Work to improve the network continue this week on the A27 at Falmer. On Monday 10 December there will be a full closure for the exit slip road to the B2123 for five nights between 8pm and 6am.  A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the next available junction.

A27 Fontwell, Sussex: drainage works
Work to improve the network take place this week on the A27. On Monday 10 December there will be a full westbound closure between Fontwell east roundabout and Fontwell west roundabout for four nights between 8pm and 6am. On Friday 14 December, the eastbound carriageway will be closed between Fontwell west roundabout and Fontwell east roundabout overnight between 8pm and 6am. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via A29 and A259.

A259 Brookland to Guestling, Kent – resurfacing

Work to improve the network continue this week on the A259. On Monday 10 December there will be a full carriageway closure in both directions between Kettle of Fish roundabout and Skinners roundabout between 8pm and 6am for five nights. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via A268, B2088, A28 and B2089.

A2070 Ashford, Kent: Junction 10a Construction
Work to improve the network continue this week on the A2070. There is currently a contraflow with 40 mph speed restriction in place hour lane closures in place between The Boulevard and the M20 Junction 10.  In addition there will be a full closure of the A2070 between M20 junction 10 and The Boulevard in both directions from Monday 10 December for five nights between 8pm and 6am. A clearly signed diversion will be in place via the A2042, A292, Elwick Rd, Forge Lane, A292 and A251.
