Three arrested for drug and weapon offences after motorway chase near Maidstone

THREE men have been arrested on suspicion of drug dealing and having a knife after a motorway police chase.

Officers on patrol noticed a car speeding on the coastbound carriageway of the M2 at 8.45am on February 9.

The vehicle failed to stop and police chased the vehicle until it eventually stopped on the A229 heading towards Maidstone town centre.

Officers seized what were believed to be Class A drugs, as well as the weapon.

A spokesman for Kent Police said: “Officers on patrol noticed a car driving at excessive speed on the coast bound carriageway of the M2 at 8:45am on Saturday, February 9.

“The vehicle failed to stop when requested and a short pursuit followed. The vehicle then came to a stop on the A229 towards Maidstone town centre.

“When searching the car officers located and seized what is believed to be Class A drugs and a knife.

“Three men who were in the car were arrested at the scene for the following offences. An  18-year-old man from London, on suspicion of drug driving, theft of a motor vehicle, driving without a licence, no insurance, possession of an offensive weapon and possession with intent to supply a Class A drugs.

“A 36-year-old man from Leytonstone, on suspicion of theft of a motor vehicle, possession of an offensive weapon and possession with intent to supply a Class A drugs.

“A 22-year-old man from Essex, on suspicion of possession of a Class B drugs, possession of an offensive weapon and theft of a motor vehicle.”

They were all later released, pending further investigation.
